Another MySpace Exec Hits “Eject”

We’ll be honest: at least in the short term, it won’t matter at all to the average MySpace user what happens with regards to the site’s executives. But if they all leave, it will probably say a lot about the site’s future, and another one did indeed bail recently. According to Nicholas Carlson, Vice President of Engineering Wilf Russell has quit, which may mean that the war with Facebook isn’t going all that well.

If MySpace users want to share their personal information with other sites, the social network’s finally ready to let them do so. As everything’s operating on an opt-in basis, privacy concerns seem to have been addressed, and it’s now pretty much up to developers to make the sharing of information seem appealing to users. Facebook, meanwhile, has yet to provide any similar options.

MySpace Application Gallery Goes Public

Like it or not, applications are a big part of what we’ll call “the Facebook experience,” and starting today, MySpace is exposing users to them, as well. Josh Catone reports, “MySpace officially opened its Application Gallery to all users . . . after launching it in public beta last March. In that time over 1,000 applications have been approved and added to the gallery and there have been over 2.1 million application installs across the site.” There’s no word on whether anything involving sheep-tossing is available.

eMarketer has released some survey results for kids age 17-24 and the results look good for Facebook. #1 preferred social network by Females and Males alike with Myspace falling to #6 with males. This certainly validates Facebook as a company that is nowhere near its peak yet.

Orb to Stream Music to Myspace. From the makers of Mycasting, which allows you to listen to your tunes at any computer or mobile device, comes a new widget that will enable users to stream their music directly to their Myspace profile, allowing all visitors to listen to it. Although the software requires a download to setup, this service is sure to gain a lot of traction, that is if it doesn’t get a cease and desist order in the very near future.
