Microsoft Establishes Twitter Account

Early adopters often view Microsoft as being a huge, slow, dinosaur of a corporation. But then, those same early adopters may be thrilled by Microsoft’s latest move, as it’s established an official Twitter account, perhaps proving the microblogging site’s importance. This is an official account for the main company, mind you, not its various branches, and if you’re interested in following Microsoft, you can find it here.

Microsoft Turning Windows Live Into Social Network Wannabe

It figured that Microsoft would enter the social scene sooner or later; there’s hardly a thing the company doesn’t try its hand at these days. However, the surprising thing is that a Windows Live update actually looks pretty good. Address books can be imported from Facebook, and partners include other big Web 2.0 sites like Flickr, Twitter, and Yelp. Don’t count on this redesign overthrowing MySpace in the next two weeks (it won’t even be fully rolled out until the beginning of next year), but it should bring in some new users and make old ones pretty happy.

Here’s a bit of good news for everyone trying to avoid Vista: Bill Gates said, “Sometime in the next year or so we will have a new version. . . . I’m super-enthused about what it will do in lots of ways.” But it remains to be seen whether Gates was referring to some sort of test version, or if the CEO, who will be leaving the company, was even right in any general sense.

Microsoft attacks Google on Book Scanning. If Microsoft isn’t careful they could be biting the hand that feeds them. If gathering content and indexing it is viewed as illegal by the courts, web search could be dead.

Photoshop will be brought online. While online photo editors are not a new game and possibly a crowded market, Adobe will have the branding power to make this extremely successful. This announcement is a great foreshadowing of things to come from large companies like Adobe as it strengthens the trend previously set by the likes of Google and Microsoft that major applications can exist completely in an online environment.

Microsoft kicks the tires on Revver but it doesn’t look like anyone is too interested in buying what Revver has to offer. Video-sharing sites are a dime a dozen these days and what originally made Revver unique (profit sharing from ad-revenue to content creators) has been copied by the likes of MetaCafe, Break, and soon possibly by YouTube.
