Digg’s Search Engine Gets Better

Digg denizens have something to cheer about today.  The site’s search engine has, according to cofounder Daniel Burka, been improved by an almost immeasurable amount.  Look for filters, try search tricks that work elsewhere, and keep an eye on how long the whole process takes, as the search engine’s supposed to have gotten faster, too.  Burka invites, “Go kick the tires and let us know what you think either by clicking the feedback link at the bottom of any search result or in the comments for this post.”

Digg adds new topics by popular requests. US Elections 2008 (why limit it to a certain year?) and Microsoft will now be their own separate topics on the social news site.

Digg to lose name to Lucasfilm?

Digg to lose name to Lucasfilm? 901am reports that Lucasfilm entertainment is attempting to block a trademark application filed by Digg. It appears Lucasfilm filed a trademark for a game in 1995 called “The Dig” and they believe the “Digg” trademark would infringe on that trademark. Digg has built a lot of popularity around their name as a trademark (even so much as becoming a verb “to digg something”) and if forced to rename could lose a lot of that brand popularity.
