Instant Messaging still a Desktop World

GigaOm reports on why IM clients are still maintaining a desktop presence despite the release of online applications for other software including Meebo which addresses instant messaging on the web. Good points are made regarding both sides of it. For me the biggest drawback to Meebo is of course that it excels at messaging but not much more in regards to video conferencing, VOIP, and file sharing. Is this a hurdle that can be overcome (possibly with Adobe Flex) or are we destined to always come back to the desktop for some functionality?

Kuler | Adobe’s Answer to Color Scheming

Adobe LogoThere’s been a lot of excitement recently with the developments coming out of Adobe, especially regarding the news that they would be bringing Photoshop online as a free, ad-supported application. Adobe also recently released another online application called Kuler which, despite the rediculous name, is a great for creating and sharing color schemes. The web is already ripe with Color Scheme Generators but if anyone knows color it’s Adobe so one would expect a quality product from them. We decided to see how they match up.

Photoshop will be brought online

Photoshop will be brought online. While online photo editors are not a new game and possibly a crowded market, Adobe will have the branding power to make this extremely successful. This announcement is a great foreshadowing of things to come from large companies like Adobe as it strengthens the trend previously set by the likes of Google and Microsoft that major applications can exist completely in an online environment.
